iOS6 – is it worth it?

iOS6 was released at 5AM this morning. I had installed it by about 7:15 on my iPhone 4S – and I am stoked.

  • Maps is my favourite bit – but that might because I have a 4S. The 3D building are awesome, but the turn-by-turn navigation (it talks to you) is brilliant. 3D building are only available for 4S and iPhone 5.
  • Facebook integration is freaky. I turned it on and found my fb friends in my contacts and events in my calendar. Sharing photos is now much nicer too, now.
  • Something that counts, but not everyone is talking about, is the phone app. When your phone rings, you can now reject the call and send an automated text. Something like: I’ll call you in a minute.
  • Passbook is just a pain. Useless in New Zealand. I hate it when they do stuff like that – I can’t move it from the first homescreen and it’s COMPLETELY USELESS IN MY COUNTRY.

Updating is now much easier that it used to be. From the homescreen, click on settings, general and software update. It took me about 10 minutes to download on wifi, then it took about 1 hour to install – include at least of couple of restarts.

iOS6 is annoying iPhone 4 users. They don’t get the full benefit of the maps – and they’re talking about upgrading already. This is a masterstroke.

What about on the iPad Steve? I’m waiting to find out if there’s an advantage…

Which iPad do you have? Do you have any other apple devices?

I’ve updated a couple of iPad2s. Facebook integration is the main benefit as far as I can see.
