Working as a music teacher with netbooks (#edchat, #musedchat)
I love netbooks. I love that the classroom has open windows and wide horizons when I have a bunch of them in my class.
They’re great for research, blogging and presentation but music notation poses a significant problem. This can be solved by buying Sibelius for about $200nz. Actually, not an option.
So I’ve started using MuseScore. Naughtily like Sibelius (heaps of the same short cut keys).
I ask students to download and install it and it works well. Students who’s parents have locked them out of doing such things can’t, but I’ve successfully email parents and they’ve installed it at home.
A good, open source solution
