There are Two Ways
There are two ways of doing IT: the fiddly way and the best way. Use the best tools for the job or bend and stretch the alternatives.
How can you tell the best way? That’s actually a really hard question, but it’s partly answered in the reason for this approach. The great thing about doing it the best way is that there is army of experts in this technology – not just one or two.
When you have a weird system that not many people know how to fix, you’re at the mercy for the scant experts.
When you use widely adopted technology, there are actually people competing for your business, offering better service than each other. And there’s a wonderful side-effect: it’s in their interests to make it more reliable, because if you don’t like their service, you can go to their competitor.
